Comfort Ye

Comfort Ye is a Music Theatre based on autobiographical texts and songs written by young South African singers. A dark story full of ambiguities, this opera follows the lives of its protagonists through an eventful 24 hours. Love, loss, a chase, a murder, rumours of abuse, families divided, and an ultimate message of hope – all these events are drawn from the everyday lives of the young performers. Set to a haunting score of old and new music, this is a production that will disturb and move you. The company, Umculo, regards opera as an ideal medium for social discourse, and its productions draw on themes which are relevant to the communities involved.
