‘The Moon is Listening’ is a life-enhancing project supporting inter-cultural dialogue by using digital technology to bring young people together. Young people from different disadvantaged communities in the Middle East and Europe have co- created an opera using film and digital technology to give them an artistic voice that will be heard around the world. The culmination is a hybrid live/digital performance in each of the partners’ own spaces. The digital element in each performance will bring all of the young people together on stage.

The project pushes the envelope of conventional opera by inviting partners to work with a newly commissioned score and libretto to create their interpretation of the work in a way that is unique to their setting and personal experiences. A production film has been made that is part of the staged performance and young people from all of the partner settings filmed their own content for this. A digital opera pack supports partners in realising their production in their own setting, aiming to make it accessible to all and we have written our own ‘Green Book’ to encourage everyone to be thinking about sustainability during their production process.

Young people of all ages will be able to experience their peers performing a story told through their eyes inspiring audiences around the globe.

"The Moon is Listening" is a pioneering project that will offer the young people across the globe a chance to create and perform their own opera, giving them the tools to understand how to story-tell, to learn to sing, and to create a performance environment within their unique setting.
